Kuala Lumpur is open so you can see the shape of it. These are highlights, not the finished city guide. The longer version — where to sign a lease, which clinic, which school run — is still being written by people who live there.
How people usually choose
Start with the constraint. School-age children often point at Mont Kiara, because the international schools sit there and the traffic is the thing you are trying not to do twice a day. A walkable week without a school run often points at Bangsar, or at KLCC and Bukit Bintang if you want the centre and the trains. TTDI is the more local version. Damansara Heights is the quiet, more expensive residential version.
Grab covers the gaps. The MRT, LRT and monorail cover the centre and some of the inner neighbourhoods. Mont Kiara is the one people name when they say the train does not quite reach.
Do not treat a rent you saw on a blog as the price. The published ranges for a one-bedroom in these areas overlap and contradict each other. Ask two landlords.
