Where to live in Da Nang

Start with the week, not the brochure

Da Nang is a beach city with a proper downtown, an airport, and enough cafes that a remote worker can stay six months without inventing a routine. The housing decision is usually which of four areas you want to wake up in. The numbers move. A beachfront one-bedroom and a Hai Chau walk-up are not the same product, and published averages disagree with what landlords ask this month. Treat any rent figure you see online as a starting rumour.

If you are coming from Hoi An, you are trading the old town for space, a beach you can use on a Tuesday, and a shorter airport run. If you are coming from a bigger Vietnamese city, you are trading density for a city that still feels mid-sized.

An Thuong

The street grid behind My Khe that most long-stay foreigners end up in first. Cafes, small restaurants, yoga, and enough English that the first month is easier. You walk to the beach. You also pay for that, and the streets get loud on weekend nights. It is the sensible first base if you do not yet know the city. It is not automatically where you should sign a year.

My Khe

The beach itself. Apartments and hotels face the water, and the walk to An Thuong is short. You are paying for the view and the morning swim. Traffic on the beach road is real. If your day is calls and a laptop, check the noise from the balcony before you transfer a deposit.

Hai Chau

Downtown. Markets, offices, the Han River, older blocks and newer towers. Rents are often kinder than the beach. The beach is a Grab ride, not a stroll. This is the practical choice if you want Vietnamese city life more than a resort strip, and if you do not mind being inland.

Son Tra

Quieter, greener, further out on the peninsula. Families and people who want a house rather than a cafe circuit look here. You will use a bike or Grab more. The mountain and the coast are the point. If your week is meetings in town, measure the ride before you fall for the view.

How people actually rent

A hotel or serviced apartment for the first one to two weeks, then a walk around the area at night as well as at noon.
Facebook groups and agents both work. Ask what is included: electricity in Da Nang is often billed on top, and air-conditioning is the line that surprises people.
Get the deposit, the notice period, and who fixes the air-con in writing. A handshake is common. A photo of the agreement is better.
Scooter parking, water pressure, and a desk that faces a wall rather than a window all matter more than the listing photos.
